I've been considering lately, The power of the Internet, and it seems as though so has the rest of the world... I mean, look at the news. There's stories of leaked documents, Officials embroiled in scandals, and what should the average consumer of news and information take from all these stories? In my opinion, this is merely a sign of the times. One should consider, the over-reaching attempts by governments all around the world to control, dumb down and otherwise take ownership of the totality of human experience. I've also wondering how can this power be used to render otherwise perfectly functional members of our society perpetually non functional.
From the stories of little girls being beat up, metaphorically, on the Internet by faceless hordes, or musings of madmen like me... The Internet can be used to shape public opinion, in ways that the media, especially the corporate controlled media could never dream... And certain things can get out of hand more than the powers that be ever imagined they could... Let's take the not too recent introduction of p2p and otherwise anonymous networks... "A series of tubes" is a good way to think of them. You have an introduction point on some of these networks, and then like magic you are transported all over the globe to different places, sometimes wearing the mask of a German living in Straussberg, Sometimes you head over to Russia, and wear the mask of a Russian. The main purpose of these networks is for people to trade in information that the world is otherwise not getting. Whether the information is lascivious in content or socially moving, these "tubes" are not going away... And my question to the governments of the world is this... As the technology grows for people who don't agree with your tactics, or your constant manipulation of what humanity considers "Normal", begin to use this technology to circumvent your efforts to control and maintain the current level of "normality"? Basically, how are you going to shape society around this new level of information... I've learned things in the last few weeks that I never knew... And simply by research on my own... I'm beginning to wonder... How much information has been kept out of my hands?......
